The moderator commented, “coursework samples were marked accurately – that it was deemed to be consistent but slightly harsh on low scoring candidates especially on criterion 5. whereas the marking on higher ability candidates was a touch generous.”

Why take Geography?
GEOGRAPHY "opens doors" to a variety of different careers. In recent years Geography graduates have left Northumbria University to pursue such varied careers as:-

TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING - SURVEYING - LAND MANAGEMENT - PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT - RETAILING - BANKING - INSURANCE - TRAVEL AND TOURISM - ACCOUNTANCY - ARMED FORCES - COMPUTERS - ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT - LAW - POLICE and TEACHING

These careers are also open to those who decide to leave school at the end of the sixth form and not go to University or College.

The wide range of careers available if you decide to take Geography illustrates the major advantages of taking Geography.

1. GEOGRAPHY IS NOT SO SPECIALIST THAT IT NARROWS YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITIES DOWN.

2. GEOGRAPHY GIVES YOU A FLEXIBILITY IN YOUR CHOICE OF FUTURE CAREER THAT OTHER SUBJECTS MAY NOT.

3. GEOGRAPHY KEEPS YOUR OPTIONS OPEN AND ALLOWS YOU TO DELAY MAKING A FINAL CAREER CHOICE UNTIL YOU ARE AT UNIVERSITY.

This is important if you are not sure what you want to do in future.
